Lewis-Gale Medical Center Welcomes New Board Members
Lewis-Gale Medical Center welcomes two new members to its Board of Trustees. Effective January 1, 2010, Lawrence Monahan, M.D., and Salem City Manager Kevin Boggess joined the Board for three-year terms. The two members replace Estelle Avner medical administrator with the Bradley Free Clinic and Bertram Spetzler, M.D., whose terms expired at the end of 2009. Avner served on the Board since 2005 and Spetzler since 2006.
We want to take the opportunity to thank Ms. Avner and Dr. Spetzler for their commitment to our organization and community over the years, said Victor Giovanetti, president HCA Southwest Virginia and fellow Board of Trustees member. We are also very excited about welcoming Mr. Boggess and Dr. Monahan we know that they will bring fresh perspectives to the table.
Kevin Boggess began his term as Salem City Manager in February, 2008. He has a bachelors degree from Virginia Tech in public administration and is a member of the International City/County Management Association.
Dr. Lawrence Monahan, an internal medicine physician, founded Jefferson Internal Medicine Associates in 1980, where he serves as president. He is a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine as well as the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, as well as the active medical staff of Lewis-Gale Medical Center.
